Residents across five provinces in South Africa are being urged to prepare for severe weather conditions as multiple yellow-level warnings have been issued due to damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and thunderstorms. The affected areas are bracing for three Yellow Level 4 warnings, which include threats to the coastline from Alexander Bay in the Northern Cape to Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape. These conditions are expected to impact marine activities and pose risks to ports and harbours.
In addition to the coastal warnings, another Yellow Level 4 alert has been issued for parts of the Northern Cape and Western Cape, focusing specifically on the potential for damaging winds that could harm infrastructure, temporary structures, and utilities. Meanwhile, the Western Cape is also facing a Level 4 warning for disruptive rainfall, with authorities cautioning that flooding may impede roadways, settlements, and traffic flow.
Further concerns arise with three Yellow Level 2 warnings that remain active in other regions. The Eastern Cape is expected to experience disruptive rainfall along its coast and eastern areas, while severe thunderstorms are predicted for the western parts of the Free State. These storms bring the potential for strong winds, hail, lightning, and falling trees, creating hazardous conditions for residents and travelers alike.
Moreover, a Yellow Level 2 warning for damaging winds is in place for the western parts of the Western Cape and the northern interior regions of the Eastern Cape. This warning highlights the risks posed to temporary structures, settlements, and transport routes. Alongside these weather warnings, authorities have also highlighted an extremely high fire danger in central parts of the country, particularly affecting large areas of KwaZulu-Natal.
