In a bid to foster a new security framework in the Middle East, Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the importance of cooperation, dialogue, and respect for national sovereignty. During discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo, Xi outlined a four-point strategy aimed at enhancing regional security collaboration. This approach focuses on addressing interconnected conflicts, supporting economic growth, and improving international coordination. Xi underscored the necessity for countries in the region to assume greater responsibility for their own security while opposing interference from external powers. He also highlighted the Palestinian issue as central to resolving broader tensions in the Middle East.
China has expressed its readiness to collaborate with regional nations on safeguarding international shipping routes, promoting economic development, and tackling the root causes of conflict. Xi emphasized that the United Nations Charter and international law should remain the foundation for managing regional issues. Strengthening economic ties between China and Egypt was also a focal point of the talks. Xi called for increased cooperation across various sectors, including infrastructure, energy, agriculture, communications, electric vehicles, green energy, aerospace, and the digital economy.
For 14 consecutive years, China has been Egypt’s largest trading partner and primary source of imports. The trade volume between the two nations has grown significantly, rising from $10.21 billion in 2013 to $20.79 billion in 2025. This economic partnership was further solidified with the signing of over 20 cooperation agreements covering diverse areas such as artificial intelligence, trade, technology, education, transportation, and industrial supply chains. Both countries also issued a joint statement aimed at reinforcing their comprehensive strategic partnership.
Xi’s proposal for a new security framework in the Middle East comes at a time when regional stability remains a pressing concern. By advocating for local solutions and enhanced cooperation, he seeks to pave the way for lasting peace and prosperity.
