Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tsepo Masilela has expressed his views on how the club can regain its competitive edge against top rivals such as Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. He emphasizes the importance of signing more seasoned players from the South African national team, Bafana Bafana, to enhance the squad’s overall capability.
Masilela specifically highlighted the potential of current players like goalkeeper Brandon Petersen and attacking midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala, indicating that they could become mainstays in the national team lineup. However, he noted that Shabalala needs to work on delivering more consistent performances and increasing his goal tally to secure a spot in Bafana Bafana.
Additionally, the Chiefs legend pointed to midfielder Sphephelo “Yaya” Sithole as a strategic acquisition for the team. He believes that a robust defensive midfielder like Sithole could significantly bolster the club’s midfield, adding strength and balance alongside the current options in that area.
While acknowledging that Kaizer Chiefs have already made some new signings in preparation for the 2026/27 season, Masilela remains firm in his stance that securing established South African internationals is essential for the club to remain competitive and vie for major titles once again.
